A Year of Mornings Project Week 20: Simple Beauty

After last weekend’s big family First Holy Communion celebration, I was ready for a little R&R.  I tried to step out of the whirlwind of busy-ness and worked very hard to find peace in the stillness and quiet of simple beauty.  I sat and listened quietly without commenting as Emma practiced her piece for her piano recital.  I took a detour on my way home one morning to just get out of my car, stick my toes in the sand, listen to the gulls, and feel the breeze in my hair and the sun on my face.  I browsed the garden center at Lowe’s and found a single, perfect, dinner plate-sized magnolia bloom.  I saw love in my spoonful of cereal as I actually sat down to eat with my girls in the morning instead of standing at the counter with my coffee, barking at them to “hurry up, or you’ll be late to school!”  I stopped by the empty lot at the end of my block that I drive by each day (always in a rush) to admire the sea of yellow wildflowers that have blanketed the entire yard . . . I appreciated the littlest things this week, the simple beauty of my surroundings.  And I am all the better for it.
