I think it’s true that once you become a photographer, it’s impossible to leave the house without a camera. I lugged along not one but THREE cameras along on our girls’ weekend at the Sanctuary Resort at Kiawah this past weekend – my trusty Nikon D7000 with four lenses, my sweet little point-and-shoot (GASP, it’s a Canon!) and of course, my camera phone for required Instagram snaps. This is the fourth year we’ve made our pilgrimage to this heavenly destination, and it has become one of my very favorite annual traditions. All of us girls who go are mothers, and so we make this journey the weekend before Mother’s Day each year.
What could be a better celebration than being pampered by one of the most attentive staffs in the South?! Honestly, I’m just happy not to have to serve breakfast, or to be able use the bathroom unaccompanied by a kindergartener asking a zillion questions, or to have someone bring ME a drink for a change . . . ahhhh, it’s heaven on Earth! Truly, my desires have become a lot simpler since becoming a mother nine years ago . . .
In any event, it also happened to be my dear friend Susan’s 29th (again!) birthday, so we definitely brought out the Champagne (see the REAL DEAL below – no sparkling wine for this crew) to celebrate. We stayed up late, read gossip magazines, ate good food, drank great Champagne, and slept past 7:30 AM – truly a heavenly weekend with dear friends. Happy birthday to Susan – can’t wait to celebrate again next year!!
