I truly feel lucky to live and work in a place where I can shoot outdoors year-round. As such, I am always on the hunt for fabulous new locations, whether they are in an urban or natural setting. Historic Charleston is known for its incredible architecture, intricate ironwork, decorative doorways, and private courtyards. When Bryden invited me to photograph their Mom & Me lifestyle session at the private residence of a friend, I was absolutely thrilled to be able to step beyond that iron gate and into their little secret garden that usually I can only peer into through the fence!
Beyond their gorgeous lintel, marble steps, mahogany door, and polished brass lay a small but meticulously-tended garden in full spring bloom. The highlight (for a little girl, of COURSE) was the wishing fountain, complete with darling cherub. After wishing upon a penny, we meandered Tradd and King Streets, popping in and out of doorways, ducking under fragrant jasmine, winding our way to White Point Gardens at the Battery (stopping for many giggles and funny faces along the way). We finished our evening together under the shade of a centuries-old live oak at sunset. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon . . .
