Camera phones seem to have overtaken the point-and-shoot camera industry these days, and it’s no wonder why: quality images combined with the convenience of your camera, social media, email, and so many other useful tasks all in one device make it easier than ever to capture and share life’s moments. One of the great things about using a camera phone is the option to edit and share your photos right from your phone. Today I’m sharing some of my very favorite photo-related apps that I use on a regular basis (I am currently an iPhone user, but most of these apps are compatible with all phones).
1) Pic Stitch – With more than 200 layouts and some fun photo effects, it’s no wonder that this app is the #1 collage app available. You can combine multiple images in one collage and share on practically every conceivable platform immediately. It also offers some pretty powerful editing tools. 2) Over – This is THE app for adding fun text and artwork to your photos. A plethora of fonts and colors are available to turn your images into postcards and graphic artwork in seconds. A crucial app for the avid meme-maker. 3) A Beautiful Mess – Going a step beyond simple text, this app has tons of clip art to enhance your photos (think speech bubbles, arrows, and sweet frames). Are you a blogger? Than this app is definitely for you!
4) Artifact Uprising – Are you guilty of letting your images just languish on your phone? This app helps you create your own printed album in just minutes with easy-to-follow instructions and super-clean layouts. The NUMBER ONE THING I encourage my clients to do is to get their memories into a tangible form so that they don’t get lost with ever-changing technology. Or, in the case of my husband, if you drop your phone into a storm sewer . . . those pics are gone forever.
5) Animoto – I frequently use this slideshow powerhouse for my client sessions, but they now have a mobile phone app to make short-but-sweet slideshows with pics from your camera phone! You can even add in short video clips and music to create your own mini-movie. This would be ideal for sharing special occasions that might have a video component (dance recital, graduation, swim meet, etc.) with family and friends.
6) Snapseed – One of the most powerful editing apps available, this one can do a lot of sophisticated editing. From fine tuning images (brightness, ambiance, contrast, saturation, shadows, warmth), to straightening and cropping, to fun frames and photo effects (tilt-shift, anyone?), this one app has it all. 7) VSCO – This one is currently my go-to favorite editing app because of the film emulsion presets and dreamy black and white filters that it offers. 8) Squaready – Have you ever taken an image only to have the edges chopped off when posting to Instagram? This app quickly and easily formats your favorite shots to a square for posting. 9) Waterlogue – This app is PURELY for fun, but will take your images and turn them into beautiful watercolor pieces of artwork (the processing is pretty amazing to watch, too!).
9) Waterlogue – This app is SO much fun – it will turn your photos into lovely watercolored works of art! Release your inner artiste and just SEE what you can create. Just watching the processing is really cool.
10) Hipstamatic – A throwback favorite of mine that has lost popularity in the past few years, I love this one because of its fun unpredictability! I find it fascinating to change up virtual film and lenses to get different images in an analog format. It is very much reminiscent of processing in-camera like REAL film, and similarly does require a learning curve. Bonus? You don’t have to wait weeks to get your images back and you don’t have to feel bad about tossing the ones you don’t like because digital space is cheap.
