One-on-One with Little B

Sullivan’s Island, SC Children’s Photographer

As much as I treasure whole-family portraits, I have to say that I adore getting kids for a one-on-one session.  Focusing on one subject at a time allows me to interact with them in a way that I can’t do with a larger group.  In most cases, kids are reserved at the beginning but warm up as things get sillier and sillier.  I am a one-woman show of animal (and sadly, farting) noises, crazy faces, and abominable dance moves.  I used to carry pocketfuls of noisemakers and props to get kids’ attention, but really and truly there is no finer entertainment to a child than an adult making an utter and complete fool of herself. Sign me up!

Little B is one of my daughter’s very good friends – they were best buds in the same kindergarten and sit with each other on the bus every day.  She is FULL of personality and has the best belly laugh.  I knew she would be up for a good time with me!  We tromped twirled through waist-high grass (a la The Sound of Music), frolicked on the sand, hunted for sea creatures, and vogued our very best poses for each other.  It was like a regular play date for me.

I could tell she was running out of steam at the end of the session (it WAS dinnertime), and so I had her pose for one last shot.  “Relax, ” I told her, “Close your eyes, and on THREE open them and give me one last smile.”  Well, I’m not 100% sure what Little B’s mom was doing behind me on THREE, but whatever it was was worth the priceless expression on her face 🙂
