Family portraiture and lifestyle photography, especially, are my favorite genres to shoot. I love watching family dynamics and being witness to their love and affection for each other. Some families are more comfortable in front of the camera than others, but by the end of my sessions I often feel like I’ve become a member. I was REALLY looking forward to this family beach session – I have worked for Elizabeth for a few years now in a professional capacity photographing her adorable creations for her Nostalgic Graphic Tees business, and I was really eager to get HER in front of the camera for a change. She has such a creative mind, and when she suggested bringing the family bikes to the shoot I was SO excited! I knew that it would make for some great interaction and some REAL expressions and emotion.
What I hadn’t anticipated was a super-high tide on the day or our shoot, nor did I suspect that the beach would be FULL of people on this chilly afternoon in early March! Dodging dogs, people and an obscene about of crunchy spartina grass (this cordrass grows in the Lowcountry marshes and washes ashore in major drifts when the tides get really high) made for a few soggy shoes, but mostly laughs and a great afternoon together. Many thanks, Elizabeth, for not only entrusting me with your business, but more importantly your FAMILY.
