When I first moved to Charleston from Charlotte, I had a seven month old and a husband who had thrown himself into a brand new career. I had left behind a successful public accounting career of my own, my very first home and a group of wonderful, supportive friends.  It was pretty lonely.  So, I threw myself into everything I could find – I joined clubs (Mom’s and Book), signed up for Gymboree, participated in Bible study at my church, was in two Bunko groups, and numerous playgroups.

One place that I found some of my very best friendships was in Stroller Strides (now called Fit4Mom), a fitness program devoted to new mothers.  This was where I met Michelle and her first child, Nolan.  New moms can bond pretty quickly over sweat and dirty diapers, and we absolutely shared the common bond of new motherhood.  Too soon, Michelle moved away to Chicago where her hubby was in residency at medical school, but we managed to stay in touch.  I was absolutely delighted when she contacted me to photograph her and her extended family while they were vacationing near Pawley’s Island this summer.

It was wonderful to catch up with her and meet kiddos #2 and #3.  And it is always so special to see the bond that cousins have with one another.  Nothing brings people together than a week at the beach with family.
