Tips to Personalize Your Senior Session

Tips to personalize your senior session with props, pets and personality

It’s true – EVERYONE has the same exact picture taken for the high school yearbook. Guys in tuxes, girls in a drape. Maybe if you’re lucky they’ll also have a cap and gown available for you to put on for a little variety.

But YOU aren’t basic, and you deserve to have a senior session that is a true reflection of your personality. You don’t have to settle for cookie-cutter, step-and-repeat with the yearbook photographer. Together, we can make YOUR senior session a standout!

Here are some great tips to personalize your senior session:

Props

Whether your are an artist or an athlete, a shoe aficionado or a chef, there are aspects of your personality that you can incorporate into your session that help showcase who you are and what you love to do.

Love reading? Bring stacks of your favorite books.

Captain of the lacrosse team? Bring your stick.

Play in the marching band? Polish up those instruments!

Danced since you were three? PLEASE tie up those pointe shoes.

Even wardrobe items like a statement piece of jewelry from your grandmother, a hat or even some flowers can really help tell the story of YOU.

Need more inspiration?

  • Sports uniforms & equipment
  • Statement shoes
  • Your car/bike/scooter/skateboard
  • Musical instruments
  • Books
  • Balloons or confetti
  • College accessories (pom poms, hats, etc.)

Added bonus? Props give you something to do with your hands.

Pets

Bring your furry friend along with you!  It may be really hard to leave your sweet buddy behind when you head off to college, but it would be SO amazing to have a portrait with your dog/cat/bunny sitting on your desk in your dorm. And, as we already know, pets can help boost our mood and put a big, genuine smiles on our faces.

Personality

Listen, there is only one YOU.  And only YOU can bring that to your session. Whether you are serious, silly or somewhere in between, THIS is your time to shine! It’s my job to direct you and make you feel comfortable in front of the camera so that all you have to do it be yourself 😉
