What to Wear: Jewel Tones

{Boone Hall Plantation  |  Mt. Pleasant, SC Family Photographer}

As soon as this family stepped out of the car dressed for their session, I just knew that they were going to be part of a What to Wear blog post!  Deciding how to dress your family can be the biggest stressor of a portrait session, especially when you have children who have very strong ideas about their wardrobe.  Knowing your location well (textures, tone, architectural elements, lighting) can be absolutely critical to a successful clothing selection.  Mom and I had extensively discussed the shooting location and its varied backdrops, and she seemed very confident that she could find something in their closets.

As luck would have it (and you never know with this garden at Boone Hall – one day it can be glorious and lush, and the next everything has died and it’s scraggly and brown), this family arrived in the most beautiful, bold jewel tones that were set off perfectly by the natural elements of our location.  The plum, pink (LOVE the layer added by the scarf and how it matches the seam on the bottom of her shirt), and navy popped against the natural textures and tones of the trees and greenery, and these colors exquisitely complimented the blooms and turning leaves of the garden.  What a good-looking crew!
