This week celebrated our first soccer game of the season. Sidelined for a few minutes to allow the other kids a chance to play, Piper was itching to get back out on the field. I could just hear her saying “Put me in Coach!” in her head.
In order to be present in the moment while still capturing our family memories, I try to haul out the “real” camera only to the first game and then simply observe the others. In 5-6 year old recreational soccer, the goal is to learn and have fun . . . which is a good thing since my little one kept finding me on the sidelines every time she had the ball, stopped, posed, waved, and smiled at the lens. The irony that she generally loathes having her picture taken is not lost on me. I’m pretty sure we have a dramatic actress on our hands rather than a die-hard athlete.
