I’ll admit it – before we had children our dogs were just about everything to us. We spoiled and pampered them. Fed them the best food. Groomed them regularly. One even traveled beneath the seat in front on me on an airplane in his special doggie duffel bag. Unfortunately for them, they became second-class citizens in our house once the kiddos arrived. Of course they never suffered from any abuse or neglect, they just had to forego the posh life of luxury and devoted attention to which they had become accustomed.
Now that our kids are older, however, our current pooch really does have the best of everything. He loves our children so much and they keep him fed, walked and entertained. So it was no question that when Boomer’s second birthday arrived we would celebrate with pomp and circumstance. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we has a little doggie birthday party. Now, I know that he doesn’t look exactly thrilled in his annual birthday portrait (my children rarely do, so why should I expect anything different?), but I assure you that he had an AMAZINGLY fabulous time with that paper party hat just moments after the girls let him go. So much fun, in fact, that there wasn’t much left of it, and there were little bits of leftover “celebration” in the yard for days . . . if you catch my drift.
In other Hamrick family weekly news, we had one child’s request to be my photo of the day (how does one say no to that?), a gorgeous autumn sunset that I had to catch by screeching the car to a halt on the side of the road to snap before the sun disappeared (that sun surely does go down fast this time of year), a morning at a barn out in the country with young and talented photographer Ivey Roth, and a beautifully completed Native American diorama project for third grade. Whew, what a week!
