Year of Mornings Project Week 49: National Cookie Day!

If you look hard enough, you can find a reason to celebrate every day of the year.  Thankfully I discovered that December 4th is National Cookie Day, so I decided to celebrate accordingly.  I am a sucker for an ooey-gooey, right-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookie.  In my opinion, that is the only way to eat one.  Don’t give me a Chips Ahoy or Pepperidge Farm!  I sniff out a freshly-baked, oven-warm chocolate chipper the way some people search the horizon for the neon Krispy Kreme “Hot Now” sign.  For connoisseurs of the sugary treat, nothing less will do.  I have even been known to make an entire batch of cookies (to the delight of my family) just because of a craving for one solitary golden-brown cocoa-studded circle of bliss.  There are other flavors of cookie, to be sure, and I do enjoy a good oatmeal-raisin or snickerdoodle from time to time . . . but there is nothing better than a good old chocolate chip cookie (just ask Cookie Monster!).

National Cookie Day overshadowed that fact that is is beginning to look a lot like Christmas at our house.  The tree is up and decorated, and I’ve started to cross some of my shopping off the list.  Incidentally, I nearly had a stroke when I saw this Elf on the Shelf Birthday Edition while out doing some shopping. I seriously have enough on my plate with the darn elf at Christmas-time and my over-achieving friends posting pics of their mischievous elves in marshmallow hot tubs, turning milk a variety of colors, and lassoing the Barbie dolls.  The Elf is supposed to be ON THE SHELF!  Where ours stays and only moves after my husband or I awake in a panic at dawn and frantically try to move her from one shelf to the the other before the kids come downstairs.  This timely blog post arrived in my Facebook news feed this week, and I thought I’d share with any fellow Elf-slackers like myself.  Elf-slackers unite!!
