Mini Sessions vs. Full Sessions – What’s the difference?

Often potential clients ask what the difference is between a mini session vs. full session, and why someone would choose one over another.  As a photographer, I relish spending time with my clients, getting to know them and their distinctive dynamics and personalities.  I like to take my time with my subjects, allowing them to warm up and feel comfortable with me (not always an easy task when you have a lens pointed in your face).

However, I also know that families sometimes desire family portraiture for a specific purpose – like documenting a baby’s first year or for the family image on the holiday card – one that doesn’t require the time a full session would provide.  Mini sessions allow current clients the potential to have sessions at multiple times in the year (I love watching them grow), and are a great way for a new client to have a small taste of the Christine Hamrick Photography experience (think of it as going out for coffee and not for the whole dinner on a first date).Charleston family and children's photographer - examples of full and mini sessions

FULL SESSIONS:

  • locations are as unlimited as your imagination (and within the law, of course)!
  • usually run about 60-90 minutes (or until everyone gets tired of me) and allow for wardrobe changes, if desired
  • a custom slideshow and at least 30 edited images are offered for your review during our fabulous Session Premiere night
  • the session fee is set (currently at $125) for the session itself, and any images and/or products are selected and purchased additionally during the Session Premiere
  • this is an excellent choice for large, multigenerational, or extended families who wish to have multiple family groupings or for families who desire variety in their imagesExtended family photography on beach - full session

MINI SESSIONS:

  • locations and times are usually pre-set to allow for me to have multiple sessions in one day at one location
  • session time is limited to 20 or 30-minute time slots in an effort to get a handful of desired shots – wardrobe changes are not generally possible with this limited amount of time
  • at least 10 images are offered for your review during our in-person Session Premiere
  • the session fee and certain images and/or products are rolled into the collections offered for each mini session promotion (though add-ons to the collections are always available)
  • this is the perfect choice for those who seek to have sessions throughout the year or if you have some specific need for an image (a holiday card or to commemorate a milestone birthday or headshots, for example)Small family mini session - Charleston, SC photographer

I schedule mini sessions at specific times during the year – check out the mini session page for any current promotions.
