Senior Photos For Guys: Portraits Aren’t Just for Girls

I have two daughters. They love spending time in front the mirror, preening and primping and looking at themselves. They take a million selfies and post incessantly on social media . . . I know the drill. Most teenage guys I know just don’t operate that way. But today I’m here to chat with you a bit about senior photos for guys: portraits aren’t just for girls.

Most of the time I am contacted by teenage girls who are looking for a fun, fashion-forward experience. We chat extensively about style, wardrobe, color palettes, mood boards, hair, nails, makeup, Pinterest. We text back and forth about outfits and accessories. There are social-media takeovers and behind-the-scenes videos. We agonize over the details and come up with fantastically customized sessions that are tailored to each girl.

With the boys I’m still double-checking to make sure they remember to bring a belt, iron their shirts and shave their necks 🤦🏼‍♀️

Guys just don’t care that much. Not that they hate having their picture taken, just that this kind of thing generally doesn’t set their world on fire. However, that doesn’t mean that this amazing time in their lives should be neglected. Girl or guy, high school seniors are getting ready to embark on the next step of life’s journey, and this year is an important one. It’s the culmination of four years of hard work and dedication. Whether that be in the academic arena, music, sports, or civic activities, these accomplishments should be celebrated and documented. Who you are at 18 is just a tiny preview of the amazing adult that you will become . . . it’s so important to freeze this moment in time.

As with all my seniors, I begin with a questionnaire that digs deep into interests and personalities, but I find this to be MOST helpful in drawing out my senior guys. What do you like to do? Do you play an instrument? Do you play a sport? Is there a local place that is really meaningful and special to you? Do you have any recent accomplishments of which you are particularly proud? In this way, we start to create a session that is truly focused on THEM – who they are and what they love. When we focus on these traits, there is a PURPOSE behind the photographs. We aren’t just simply taking pictures to have them (though Moms are ALWAYS happy to have a keepsake of their babies once they are off and away at college!).

Want to incorporate your dog? Your truck? Your Eagle scout uniform? Your swim medals? Let’s do it! I love collaborating with all kinds of seniors to plan and execute a session that suits YOU perfectly. Contact me today to get started – I love senior photos for guys!
